Innovation in clinical education

The University of Louisville School of Dentistry is poised to become a premier center for training the next generation of dentists in the use of digital technologies that transform patient care and increase practice efficiency. Focus areas include digital imaging (especially intraoral scanning and cone beam CT), 3D virtual printing, digital restoration design and digital implant planning. These systems are connected through a custom-designed, web-based 3D digital data system. The dental clinics were completely renovated in 2012, providing flexibility and improved patient flow to further enhance students’ clinical education.

More than 50,000 patient visits occur each year at the School of Dentistry. In addition, ULSD operates numerous clinical sites across Kentucky where students go into communities to provide care. Those sites provide access to oral health care for patients who have high need, while giving students opportunities to treat more diverse and complex cases than ever before.
