2026 ULSD graduate is the first dental hygiene student to complete UofL’s University Honors Scholars Program

Kirsten Gillispie, a May 2026 degree candidate in dental hygiene, is on track to successfully complete the University of Louisville’s prestigious University Honors Scholars Program upon graduation – an exceptional accomplishment that highlights her academic dedication, leadership, and commitment to service. Gillispie is believed to be the first Dental Hygiene major to reach this milestone, marking an important moment for the program and the School of Dentistry.

The University Honors Scholars Program is designed to recognize students who pursue a comprehensive and highly individualized honors experience. Participants complete advanced coursework, engage in research and creative scholarship, participate in civic and community engagement, and build a portfolio that reflects sustained intellectual growth across their undergraduate career. Completion of the program signals not only academic excellence, but also a willingness to challenge oneself beyond traditional degree requirements.

Gillispie’s achievement reflects her ability to successfully balance the rigorous demands of a health sciences curriculum with the additional expectations of the Honors Scholars Program. Through her honors experiences, she has developed a broader perspective on health care, service, and professional responsibility – qualities that will serve her well as she enters the dental hygiene profession.
