Demuth granted patent for development and testing of antibiofilm compounds

Dr. Donald R. Demuth, emeritus professor and university scholar from the UofL School of Dentistry, and Dr. Frederick A. Luzzio, professor of chemistry from the UofL College of Arts & Sciences, have received a U.S. Patent for the development and testing of antibiofilm compounds useful for the treatment of oral bacterial infections causing dental plaque and eroding of gums and bone. This technology is currently under development for clinical trials as an oral anti-infective treatment. 

Faculty, staff, students, and postdoctoral fellows from the UofL School of Dentistry Department of Oral Immunology & Infectious Diseases are involved in cross-disciplinary projects to dissect the molecular and cellular basis of the interactions between oral bacteria and their host.
